The gallery and sculpture studio is situated in the main street of Riverton, a small rural town 100km North of Adelaide, South Australia, and almost half way between the Clare and Barossa Valleys. It is surrounded by the rolling hills of the Gilbert Valley that slope gently down from the Belvedere Ranges, an extension of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The gallery was once occupied as a garage workshop and the old stone building has been carefully restored and was reopened as the Riverton Light Gallery in 2008.
Exhibitons of paintings, drawings and sculpture are held in the three front rooms, utilizing the natural light of the large windows, Whilst these exhibitions range in subject and scope, including multimedia presentation, the main emphasis is on art created from 'life', depictions in tone and light. Robert hannaford and his wife Alison Mitchell are regular exhibitors. One aspect of the gallery is to promote an interest in local, natural and cultural history. Information on the local Ngadjuri tribe is available as are contacts for information on and purchase of endemic plants. A native plant nursery is situated at the rear of the building.
Coffee and tea can be purchased and enjoyed in the vine covered courtyard and sculpture garden. This incorporates a beautifully built brick oven with the potential for woodfired pizzas on lazy Sunday afternoons in the future.
The back part of the building is used as a sculpture studio and workshop.

Big hART
During February and March 2009 the gallery will be exhibiting Robert Hannaford's Big hART paintings. These paintings were created over a ten year period as part of the performance of three separate Big hART projects in Tasmania, Adelaide and Sydney. Hannaford was asked to paint the portraits of people from the communities involved as a way of validating the identities of often marginalized people. The resultant twenty five portraits, painted from life, are raw, energetic and poignant in their exploration of our common humanity. This will be the first time that they have been shown together.
Big hART is a multi-award winning arts company that uses theatre, film, TV, paintings, photography, dance, radio and other creative processes to support groups and communities who lack opportunity.
Founded in 1992 the organization has worked directly with over 4,000 individuals in over 30 rural and remote communities. Thus social problems such as domestic violence, drugs, suicide, low literacy levels, accident prevention, truancy, addiction and homelessness are constructively addressed.
Participation in Big hART projects has brought positive change to many lives. It has also produced original and exciting art of the highest calibre.
10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of these paintings will be donated to Big hART .
